UK Government's new net-zero plan.

On 20 September 2023, the UK government announced notable changes to their net zero strategy, in a shift away from various policies.

 

Some of the key policy changes announced are as follows: -

  • a ban on the sale of petrol and diesel cars is to be delayed from 2030 to 2035;
  • plans to force landlords to upgrade the energy efficiency of their properties are to be scrapped;
  • postponement of the ban on installing new oil boilers and new coal heating for off-gas-grid homes from 2026 to 2035; and
  • a ban on new fossil fuel boilers is to be delayed, with cash grants for boiler upgrade schemes to increase by 50% to £7,500 for those who wish to transition now.
