EU Commission launches consultations on SFDR

14 September 2023

On 14 September 2023, the EU Commission launched both a targeted and public consultation on the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR). The consultations aim to gather views on the implementation of SFDR and any shortcomings, including the interaction of SFDR with the existing EU framework on sustainable finance.

SFDR has been in application since March 2021, and aims to enhance transparency to the financial market. SFDR establishes how financial intermediaries, such as asset managers, must communicate sustainability-related information to investors. It is designed to bring more transparency to the market and enable investors to make informed choices.

The targeted consultation is aimed at public bodies and stakeholders who are familiar with the EU’s sustainable finance framework, including: -

  • financial market participants;
  • investors;
  • NGOs;
  • relevant public authorities;
  • national regulators; and
  • those that are subject to provisions of the SFDR and have a more in-depth understanding of the regulation.

The public consultation is aimed at those with a more general knowledge of SFDR, including: -

  • interest groups;
  • member associations; and
  • representative bodies.

The consultations also include a series of workshops, beginning on 10 October 2023.

The consultations are set to close on 15 December 2023.  If any member organisations would like the LMA to submit a response to either of the consultations, please get in contact with Gemma Lawrence-Pardew or Hannah Vanstone to share your views.
