UK Transition Plan Taskforce publishes call for evidence on proposed sector-neutral framework for private sector transition plans

10 May 2022

On 10 May 2022, the UK's Transition Plan Taskforce (the Taskforce) published a call for evidence on its proposed sector-neutral framework for private-sector transition plans (the Call for Evidence). This comes as many firms are beginning to publish their plans to get to net zero, highlighting the variability, quality and robustness of the plans.

The Taskforce has begun the development of a sector-neutral framework for transition plans, and the Call for Evidence seeks feedback on various points regarding this framework as well as the content of a gold standard transition plan. More specifically, the Call for Evidence seeks views on, amongst other things, the following matters:

  • the definition and uses of a transition plan;
  • specific sectors which should have tailored transition plans;
  • other financial/non-financial, mandatory/voluntary frameworks and processes that should be considered;
  • challenges for SMEs;
  • different jurisdictional approaches; and
  • the key elements a private sector transition plan should cover.

Responses to the Call for Evidence should be submitted by 13 July 2022, with the Taskforce looking to publish a consultation towards the end of 2022 and to finalise this in early 2023.
