EU Platform on Sustainable Finance publishes report on technical screening criteria for remaining objectives of EU taxonomy

30 March 2022

On 30 March 2022, the EU's Platform on Sustainable Finance (the Platform) published a report setting out its recommendations to the European commission relating to technical screening criteria for objectives 3-6 of the Taxonomy Regulation ((EU) 2020/852) (the Report).

The Report outlines the Platform's methodology in relation to its recommendations on the technical screening criteria, and stresses the need for consistency between technical screening criteria as the Taxonomy evolves. In the Report, the Platform also recommend improvements to the design of the Taxonomy and the Taxonomy Criteria.

The Report is supplemented by a separate Annex which sets out the specific recommendations for the technical screening criteria for the four remaining environmental objectives which are:

  • sustainable use and protection of water and marine resources;
  • transition to a circular economy;
  • pollution prevention and control; and
  • protection and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems.

The recommendations are the culmination of 15 months of consultation across all parts of the investment chain, industry sector representatives, academia, environmental experts, civil society and public bodies.
