UK Government publishes Net Zero Estate Playbook for transition of government estate to net zero

23 November 2021

On 23 November 2021, the UK Government's Cabinet Office published the Net Zero Estate Playbook (the Playbook), setting out key policies and guidance which outlines the UK Government's expectations of property professionals in the transition of UK public building and estates to net zero.

The Playbook provides a definition of net zero for UK Government property, covering carbon emissions at different parts of a building's lifecycle as well as guidelines on how property estates teams should implement improvements and interventions to buildings in order to make them more energy efficient, and align with the UK Government's net zero by 2050 commitment. The guidance explains how property professionals should approach the design, implementation and monitoring of a net zero strategy and delivery programme.
