International Organization of Securities Commission releases final report on ESG ratings and data products providers

On 23 November 2021, the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) published its final report on ESG ratings and data products providers (FR09/21)(the Report) which draws on information from draft recommendation consultations in July 2021.

The Report highlights the increase in the influence and role of ESG ratings and data products providers, and sets out ten broad recommendations, which are underpinned by more granular guidance to assist institutions in navigating the ESG ratings and data market. The recommendations cover a number of matters, including:

• possible regulatory and supervisory approaches;
• the internal processes of ESG ratings and data products providers;
• the use of ESG ratings and data products; and
• the interactions of ESG ratings and data products providers with entities subject to assessment by them.
