First phase of 15th UN Biodiversity Conference takes place virtually

11 October 2021

On 11 October 2021, the first phase of the 15th UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15) is taking place and will involve a review of the progress made by the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in achieving the 20 Aichi Biodiversity Targets set out in its 'Strategic Plan for Biodiversity for 2011-2020'.

Also discussed at COP15 was the final decision on the CBD's post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, which stresses the need for urgent policy action to stabilise biodiversity loss by 2030. This will likely be finalised in phase 2 of COP15 which is taking place in April 2022.
