European Commission calls for advice from EBA on review of EU banking macro-prudential framework in relation to the systemic risks from climate change

21 September 2021

On 21 September 2021, the European Commission (the Commission) published a request for advice (Ares(2021)4439183) from the European Banking Authority (EBA) in relation to the Commission's review of the EU banking macro-prudential framework and its exposure to global risks, including climate change.

In the call for evidence, the Commission asked for advice on, amongst other things, whether the macroprudential tools available are appropriate and sufficient to prevent and mitigate financial stability risks arising from the changing nature of systemic risks (including climate change). The Commission also asked the EBA to consider which tools could be added and how these would be evaluated.
