Council of the EU approve conclusions on a sustainable blue economy

26 May 2021

The Council of the EU (the Council) has approved a set of conclusions on a sustainable blue economy, which are based on four pillars: healthy oceans, knowledge, prosperity and social equity. The conclusions underline the need for an efficient ocean governance built on a sustainable blue economy.

The Council's conclusions highlight the need for sustainable use of oceans and seas, and the important role that this will play in the European Green Deal agenda. The conclusions also support the European Commission’s new approach for a sustainable blue economy in the EU, which was adopted earlier this month.
