The German federal cabinet has adopted the revised Climate Change Act, setting the country on course to achieve climate neutrality by 2045 with new and more ambitious binding targets.

The interim climate target for 2030 has been raised from 55 to 65 percent greenhouse gas reduction compared to 1990 levels. A new interim target has also been set for 2040 to reduce emissions by 88 percent.

In addition to the adoption of the new Climate Change Act, the German government has also announced a new immediate action programme to support implementation of the new climate targets for different sectors.
