UK Government publishes consultation on implementation of increased minimum energy efficiency standard for non-domestic private properties by 2030

17 March 2021

On 17 March, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) published a consultation which seeks views on the proposed framework to implement a minimum energy efficiency standard (MEES) of EPC B by 2030 for privately rented non-domestic properties (the Consultation). The consultation focuses on the following areas:

  • improving the implementation and enforcement of MEES; and
  • ensuring that the policy can be delivered in practice.

This Consultation follows the BEIS' 2019 call for views on a proposed future regulatory target of EPC B by 2030 for the non-domestic private rented sector (the 2019 Consultation). Responses to the 2019 Consultation put a spotlight on issues with how existing minimum energy efficiency standards had been implemented.

The Consultation will close on 9 June 2021. Responses can be submitted online, either via the online survey or by emailing businessenergyuse@beis.gov.uk.
