UK Government publishes consultations on new framework for rating energy and carbon performance of large commercial and industrial buildings

17 March 2021

On 17 March 2021, the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) published a consultation on introducing a performance-based policy framework for assessing energy use and carbon emissions in large commercial and industrial buildings in England and Wales. The consultation sets out the rationale behind introducing an outcome-based policy framework, the framework's objectives, and how the government intends to structure the annual ratings so that it can deliver those objectives.

As part of phase one of the government's plans to introduce the annual rating, BEIS also published a consultation on how the framework could be implemented in commercial and industrial offices above 1000 square metres.

Both consultations will close on 9 June 2021.
