FCA speech: rising to the climate challenge

The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published a speech by Nikhil Rathi, CEO of the FCA, about rising to the challenge of climate change, highlighting the central role that finance will play in the transition to a cleaner and less carbon-intensive economy.

The speech also confirms that, from 1 January 2021, the FCA are introducing rules requiring companies to make better disclosures about how climate change affects their business, consistent with the recommendations of the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
