European Commission launches consultation on sustainable corporate governance

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on sustainable corporate governance which is intended to foster long-term sustainable and responsible corporate behaviour. The Consultation asks how the EU can best go about helping businesses in the way they operate, in moving towards a more sustainable economy and ensuring that environmental and social interests are embedded into business strategies.

This initiative follows the announcement in the European Green Deal and the Commission’s Communication on the (Covid-19) Recovery Plan, which emphasised the importance of sustainability being further embedded into the corporate governance framework.

The consultation closes on 8 February 2021.
