As sustainability considerations become increasingly embedded within financial decision-making, banks are moving beyond viewing sustainability as a standalone financing theme and towards integrating climate and transition risks into broader risk management and credit assessment processes.

This keynote will explore the evolving role of sustainability within the banking sector, including the integration of transition risks into credit processes, supervisory expectations and the implications for lending decisions. The session will provide the ECB’s perspective on how sustainability is becoming an increasingly important component of assessing risk, resilience and long-term value across the loan markets.

While the market has traditionally focused on financing decarbonisation, attention is increasingly turning to how businesses build resilience to physical climate risks.  

This session will explore whether financial markets are beginning to recognise and reward resilience, how sustainability-linked financing is evolving beyond emissions-based metrics, and whether adaptation can become a meaningful component of financing strategies, portfolio risk management and long-term value creation.

This session will explore how lenders, investors and policymakers can balance economic growth with environmental and social considerations, and what a social licence to operate means for financing the next generation of infrastructure.

This session will focus on companies whose core business models are designed to deliver environmental or social outcomes. It will explore how lenders assess these businesses, how financing structures can support growth, and how loan markets can help scale companies contributing directly to the transition.

This closing panel will look ahead to the innovations needed to support sustainable finance at scale, including new financing models, data solutions, standards and market infrastructure. Panellists will consider what needs to be built next to support transition, resilience and long-term value creation.
