LMA responds to HMRC's consultation on simplifying treaty relief from withholding tax on cross-border interest payments

On 7 September 2026, the LMA responded to HMRC's consultation on simplifying treaty relief from withholding tax on cross-border interest payments.
In its response, the LMA noted the submissions made by the Association of Corporate Treasurers and UK Finance and focused its comments on matters of particular relevance to the syndicated lending market and market-standard loan documentation. The LMA also highlighted the importance of sufficient implementation time and appropriate transitional arrangements to allow any changes to be reflected in market practice and standard industry documentation.
